Mexico defender Efrain Juarez agrees to join Celtic

Celtic have completed the signing of Mexico right-back Efrain Juarez from UNAM Pumas for an undisclosed fee subject to a medical and work permit. The 22-year-old made three appearances for Mexico during the World Cup finals. He had returned to Pumas in 2008 after two years with Barcelona, where he played for the Spanish club's B team. Juarez, who can play in central midfield or on the wing, helped Pumas to fourth place in La Primera Division before heading for South Africa. Celtic manager Neil Lennon had said on Wednesday that he was confident of signing Juarez in time to make his Celtic debut against Manchester United while on their pre-season tour of North America on Friday. "We are very close to signing him and hopefully over the next few days we'll have something on that," said Lennon. "He might not come to Philly, but hopefully he'll come to Toronto. We're not paying massive money for him."

Juarez, who has also been linked with moves to England and Spain, played three times for his country at the recent World Cup finals in South Africa, with the Mexicans reaching the last 16 stage of the competition. "He's got great energy, is really comfortable on the ball and works really hard off the ball," added Lennon. "He's a very fit lad and I think his style will suit us. He's a hardy little guy as well - he can put his foot in. "I saw Juarez playing against England at Wembley before the World Cup and just kept an eye on him. "I thought he looked decent there and in the World Cup and, when the opportunity came up, we watched him again and again and asked if he would fit in to what we wanted to do here. "We all agreed that he would." Lennon has already strengthened his squad with the captures of South Korea right-back Cha Du-Ri from Freiburg, former Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley and ex-Aberdeen defender Charlie Mulgrew. However, former captain Stephen McManus has left the club to join Middlesbrough and goalkeeper Artur Boruc has joined Fiorentina.

Die Kultfiguren verkaufen und den letzten Rotz holen, wenn das der Weg ist, den Lennon den Fans versprochen hat, so hat er eine falsche Richtung eingeschlagen. Wie hat mir heute einer so schön geschrieben ? Alles wird gut Micha, nur nichts besser. Und genauso wirds kommen, wenn sich in den nächsten 4 Wochen bis zum Saisonstart nichts in eine andere Richtung bewegt. Das solls auch mal wieder für längere Zeit gewesen sein, solch einen Mist verfolge ich in Zukunft mit einem gewissen Abstand. Die sind doch zu blöde um eins und eins zusammenzuzählen.

FĂĽr die gibts einen eigenen Thread. Klar erinnere ich mich an den Absender, hab dich gerade online gesehen. Wie gesagt stimme ich dir im Moment vollkommen zu, was diese Aussage angeht.

So schwer es mir fällt, ich muss McCeltic ein Stück weit zustimmen. Daryl Murphy wäre ein sehr schwaches Signal. Da ist es egal, das die anderen auch nichts gebacken bekommen.

Boruc dagegen hätte ich, wenn er nicht bereit gewesen wäre zu verlängern, auch verkauft. Nächstes Jahr wäre er eh weggewesen, so mein Eindruck.

Georgios Samaras is a target for Spanish side Hercules, who have just been promoted to La Liga.

Celtic’s Greek striker Georgios Samaras is on a list of transfer targets for Hercules, according to reports from Spain. The newly-promoted team from Alicante want the forward to form part of a new strike force with Paraguayan Nelson Valdez.

Hercules have already opened negotiations with Celtic to take Samaras to Spain, according to Madrid newspaper AS. With the Glasgow side completing the transfer of forward Daryl Murphy from Sunderland on Friday, Neil Lennon could be set to allow the World Cup player to leave Parkhead.

Samaras has 12 months remaining on his contract in Glasgow and would be free to negotiate a Bosman move from January. Celtic are likely to be persuaded to part with the player if a suitable offer is made, though no transfer fee has been mentioned in the Spanish press.

Neil Lennon acknowledged that it made financial sense to sell players with only one year left on their deal when discussing the departure of Stephen McManus and Artur Boruc. Both were in the same contractual position as Samaras.

The forward has been consistently linked with a departure from Parkhead in recent months. Serie A side Palermo confirmed their interest back in May but no formal bid was forthcoming.

Hercules may be more determined to land their man as they rebuild ahead of their return to the Spanish top flight. With star man and top scorer, ex-Real Madrid forward Javier Portillo, apparently the subject of a transfer bid from Al Jazira, their attention is focused on putting together a forward line to keep them up next season.

Alongside Samaras, the Spanish side have targeted Paraguay striker Valdez and Adrian Colunga, currently at Recreativo.

Samaras played three matches for Greece in the World Cup, impressing in the lone striker role against Argentina, but failing to find the net as his side crashed out in the group stage. After returning from international duty, he joined Celtic for pre-season training and is currently on tour with the first team squad in America. He did not feature against Philadelphia Union but came off the bench to score from the penalty spot against Manchester United on Friday.

Also, wenn Juarez oder Ledley im Mittelfeld ( zumindest einer von beiden ) eingesetzt werden sollen, was will man dann auch noch mit Bullard ? Wie wäre es einfach mal, wenn man sich um die dringenst wichtigen Positionen kümmert ?
