Joe Ledley expected to join Celtic Cardiff City manager Dave Jones and Stoke counterpart Tony Pulis expect midfielder Joe Ledley to join Celtic.
Ledley, who is leaving Cardiff and had been linked with Stoke, held talks with Celtic earlier this week and has visited the Glasgow club's facilities.
"As far as I was concerned, Joe had gone and signed for Celtic. So, that's the end of the matter," said Pulis.
And Jones told BBC Sport Wales: "Joe's decided that he wants to go to Celtic so all the best to him and we move on."
Celtic can sign the 24-year-old without paying a transfer fee because it would be a cross-border move whereas Stoke would have had to pay compensation.
But Jones insists Cardiff will still be due some money if Ledley completes a move to Glasgow.
"There's a training compensation when you cross border and we'll be arguing that out with them now," he added.
"I'm disappointed that I've lost a very, very good player but if that's what he's decided to do, I wish him all the very best and I hope his career goes as well as what he wants it to go.
"I'm surprised, I thought he wanted Premiership football. But we had no contact from any Premiership club except Stoke.
"We were never made an offer from Stoke. We were never made an offer from any club for Joe. Joe's been a free since December.
"I'm close friends with Tony. Tony never made him an offer. He wanted a player swap and we weren't prepared to do that.
"We made Joe a fantastic offer to stay. Joe decided that he wanted to ply his trade elsewhere, which he's entitled to do."
Ledley met with Stoke and Pulis says the ball was left in the player's court.
"It's not a case of us chasing after him," said Pulis. "He's come and had a look at the place and he's gone away and he hasn't got back in touch. We take it as that's it now, the deal's dead.
"If we get a phonecall, it'll be a phonecall from them, it won't be us phoning up.
"It's up to him to decide and if he decides to go up join Celtic then I'll wish him all the best, it's not a problem.
"But we're a football club that we think are progressive. We think we've got things in place and if people want to go elsewhere, fine, we'll wish them all the best.
"He had a bad injury last year, it curtailed his form a little bit and his amount of appearances but he's a good player, we'd like to have him here.
"We've made our pitch for it and if he wants to go to Celtic then we can't do anything about it."
Meanwhile, Pulis says there has been no contact from Celtic regarding midfielder Liam Lawrence, who has indicated that he would like to join Neil Lennon's side.
"I'm back at work and nobody's rung me from Celtic," he added. "I've had my mobile on.
"Liam's not spoken to me, he's just got on and trained well. He looks as fit as a flea, which is brilliant.
"Obviously, there are players who want to leave, there are players who want to stay. There are players who want regular football and players we want to leave, it's just making sure we look after everything and we do it the right way."
