Celtic secure Derby County winger Kris Commons

Scotland winger Kris Commons has completed his transfer from Derby County to Celtic and signed a three-and-a-half year contract in Glasgow. The 27-year-old rejected an offer from Rangers after Celtic's Scottish Premier League rivals had a bid of about ÂŁ500,000 accepted by County. And Celtic will pay a similar fee after Commons passed a medical in Glasgow and accepted better personal terms. He will be presented to the media by Celtic on Friday. Celtic manager Neil Lennon told BBC Scotland on Wednesday evening: "He is a player on a list that we have been interested in for a while." Mansfield-born Commons started his career with Stoke City and moved to Derby from Nottingham Forest in 2008. Commons' contract at Pride Park is due to expire at the end of the season and the winger capped seven times for Scotland had rejected a new deal with the Championship club. That attracted the interest of both sides of the Old Firm.

And Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist on Wednesday admitted defeat, believing that he had received a higher offer from another club. "We made him an offer," he revealed. "Unfortunately, I think he has received an offer from elsewhere that is more financially beneficial to him." Rangers manager Walter Smith insists the blow of missing out on Commons has not been compounded by the fact the winger has joined Celtic. "It's just the fact we were in to try to get the player and we have not got him - that's the main thing," said Smith. "Where he goes after that is really immaterial. "He's not coming to Rangers and that's what we would have liked to happen." Smith is still trying to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes at midnight on Monday after losing top scorer Kenny Miller to Bursaspor last week. "We're still having a look at trying to get someone," the Ibrox boss said. "So far we have not had anything that we feel will enhance us. "We may still have the ability to bring in a player or two but there's nothing in the pipeline so far."

Auch wenn wir nicht wirklich viele IV haben, dann bitte nicht mehr McManus! Hat mir am Anfang noch Freude gemacht. Mittlerweile ein Spieler mit sehr vielen Stellungsfehlern und schlechter Spieleröffnung. Unsere gute Spielweise ist nicht den langen Bällen geschuldet. Wir spielen einfach einen flachen gepflegten Ball hinten raus.

danke fĂĽr die promte Antwort... schlechte Mannschaft....kann man so stehen lassen wenn man deren Kader sieht und den Tabellenplatz dazu....

man muss sagen Lenny hat den Kader ganz schön auf geräumt von der Ara Strachan und Mowbray sind nich mehr viele da! Aber man hat es geschafft aus einem Team mit 12 Neuzugängen eine Einheit zu formen....siehe gestern auf das man stolz sein kann!!!

Dear All,
After three years in Glasgow it's time to say goodbye. And it's hard. As a football player, all I want is to play and now it's time for me to move to another club and another league. Everything here at Celtic is fantastic, but another club is calling me with the possibility to have the minutes that I need. My job is to play football, and as much as I love this club, I need to play.

Over the last three years I have learnt a lot of things. Now I can say that I’m one of the lucky Bhoys to have played at Paradise in the green and white shirt. Being a part of the Celtic family has been great and Celtic will always remain in my heart.

After my time here I have came to understand why the Celtic supporters are well known all around the world and why this club is so special. There will always be a big space for all my fantastic memories here, the good moments when I was playing and even the bad ones. Marc Crosas is moving to another place, but a big part of his heart will remain here.

I would love to thank everyone who made me feel at home here – the staff, players and fans. I leave a lot of friends here. Real friends! I believe in this team, I believe in this club and I wish that at the end of the season every Celtic fan on earth will be proud of Lenny, Thommo, Johan, Garry and all my team-mates.
