Adam Matthews looks to be on his way out of Parkhead after Celtic agreed a £2million fee with Sunderland for the Wales international right back. Hours after new signing Saidy Janko was unveiled by the Scottish champions at their training base at Lennoxtown, Matthews was given the green light to open talks on personal terms with the Black Cats ahead of a proposed switch to the Premier League. Despite signing Janko from Manchester United, Sportsmail understands that Celtic were keen to hold on to 23-year-old Matthews, who arrived in Glasgow from English Championship side Cardiff City back in 2011. But it’s understood that Matthews, who had 12 months left on his contract, was also looking for a fresh challenge after winning four consecutive Scottish titles with the Parkhead club. And, after sampling the Champions League and starring in the club’s famous 2-1 home win over Barcelona in November 2012, he was keen to fulfil another long-held career ambition of playing in the richest league in the world.
