    How do you respond to the criticism about lack of investment?
    There is no pile of cash sitting there that we could look at, watch, feel and touch. It doesn’t exist. It’s fantasy.
    We have a wee bit of cash reserve which gives us stability and we have money we can invest on the right players.
    Lenny spent more than £30million, wee Gordon £38m, Martin was over £40m and Tony Mowbray was even £13-14m.
    The frustration is these facts do not get through or people do not want to listen and are not taking them in.
    Three years ago we were being told Celtic need Rangers, disaster, Armageddon the whole thing is going to fall apart.
    We have lost millions over the period in terms of Rangers not being here and the way Scottish football is at the moment – the league does not have a sponsor and we do not have Rangers, so in order to keep our numbers up in the last two years we have given £4m back to the season-ticket holders with the £100 discount.
    So the way we have maintained our revenues is by making a profit in selling players.
    If you look at our accounts there is no massive pile there that is being stockpiled. We can not be clearer. We can not give more than everything.
    Over the period in my time ... if you get away from this madness, this frenzy in the West of Scotland, we are recognised wherever you go in Europe as one of the best run clubs in Europe, if not the world.
    That is off the pitch and on the pitch in the last 10, 11 years – my time. I have been 11 years – if we win the title this year we have won it eight times, we have been in the Champions League group stages seven times, the last-16 stage three times and at the same time Rangers and Hearts have gone bust.

    Do you agree that the quality on the pitch is less than it was two years ago?
    For Fraser Forster going, we’ve got Craig Gordon. For Kelvin Wilson we got Virgil van Dijk. For Gary Hooper? Have we replaced him? Good question. But it’s not for the want of trying or investment. That’s judgment and you do get some things wrong. Every club does.
    We could buy a £4m, £5m or £6m player who is value. But the consequences of that are he would want the £50k to £70k a week he would get elsewhere.
    In the context of Scottish football a £50k-a-week player would actually be more than Aberdeen, Dundee United or any other Premiership club’s wage bill by himself.

    What do you say to the Celtic fan who says he isn’t getting value for money?
    We still have just under 40,000 season-ticket holders. Number one, a Celtic supporter supports the club through thick and thin.
    He is supporting a team which is the best in Scotland by a mile, a club which has ambition and which is one of the best run clubs in the world.

    But it looks like downsizing.
    Well, in order to keep Celtic at a level with revenues dropping we are looking at our wage bill.
    Every other club in Scotland, perhaps with the exception of Aberdeen at the moment, are doing the same.
    So downsizing? No. We are still investing the same amount of money. Our wage bill is still the same and we’ve been able to maintain it on the profit from selling players.

    If Rangers were challenging would your spend be different?
    Our income would have been different so yes. Rangers going out has taken a lot of money out, not just for Celtic but out of the game.
    With Hearts going out of the league too with Hibs that’s taken money out of the game.

    But a £15m profit has been made in the past two years. Is it too simple to say half of it should be invested in the squad?
    Selling players now, in effect, pays the bills. It keeps Celtic Park at the level it’s at. It keeps Lennoxtown at the level it’s at and maintains how we treat our staff, everything.

    Have you gone for the £6m-£8m player and what are the difficulties?
    Let’s take Steven Fletcher, who would cost £6m to £7m and is on £37,000 a week and is 27. That is a huge investment.
    You would go for Fletcher if there was a deal to be done for him on loan or such like. But the difficulty of getting someone up here at that level is that. We have had knockbacks from much lesser players than that level. If they want to come and play here there is then the difficulty of their salary.

    But paying £2m for players is always a gamble, particularly for a striker, no?
    There are errors we have made and the striker is the most important position. We have made errors but I don’t think it’s a gamble.
    For all the wrongs we’ve had Wanyama, Ki, Hooper, van Dijk, Adam Matthews, Lustig.
    But the striker is a fair criticism. Last year when Hooper went you would think what we brought in could have done better than we have.
    That is accepted but it happens. And at every club.

    How has Ronny Deila handled his first few weeks?
    I think he is following a great Celtic manager, a Celtic legend, which brings its difficulties.
    He is young. He has a lot of fantastic ideas. He’s progressive, he’s intelligent and he develops players, which fits what we’re trying to do here. Nothing prepares you for Celtic, nothing.
    He is going to build his team and do what he wants to do without that short-term pressure. Hopefully he’s got that year in order to go and test things and take things on.

    Can you handle the personal abuse?
    You have to look where it’s coming from firstly. There is a silent majority of the Celtic support that do appreciate because the facts are there.
    If people scratch the surface they will see what is being done. It’s not just me, it’s the board.
    In terms of the abuse, I’ve been a Celtic supporter all my life. The pain hurts, in terms of results. In terms of my family - my brothers, my kids, my wife and cousins who all go to the games are who I feel for. I feel responsible for bringing that on them. :celt2

    So what keeps you here?
    I love the club. This is my club. Anything else would be a job, this is a passion.

    Celtic PLC have today announced results for the year ended 30 June 2014.

    SUMMARY OF THE RESULTS

    Operational Highlights

    Winners of the SPFL.
    Participated in the UEFA Champions League, having played 6 home European matches (2013: 6).
    28 home matches played at Celtic Park (2013: 30).
    Scottish Cup Final and SPFL League Cup Final held at Celtic Park.
    The Celtic Way officially opened in May 2014.
    Successful hosting of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony

    Financial Highlights

    Group revenue decreased by 14.6% to £64.74m (2013: £75.82m), in part due to the £100 reward on season tickets.
    Operating expenses (excluding exceptional operating expenses) decreased by 4.5% to £59.89m (2013: £62.71m).
    Investment in football personnel of £8.07m (2013: £9.67m).
    Year end net cash at bank £3.83m (2013: £3.76m)
    Exceptional costs of £4.66m (2013: £1.83m).
    Profit before tax £11.17m (2013: £9.74m).
    New long-term bank facility agreement.


    CHAIRMAN’S STATEMENT

    This pleasing set of annual results arise principally because we have enjoyed a second consecutive season winning our home league and participating in UEFA Champions League football, together with an increased contribution from the disposal of player registrations during the year. The momentum accumulated from two such seasons has placed us in a strong financial position going forward. I pay tribute to Neil Lennon and his management team, who left the Club in May, and thank them for their contribution and the success achieved during their time with the Club.

    Whilst the short-term objectives of the Company are dominated by our day-to-day success as a Club on the park, the chief role of the Board is to ensure that the long-term future of the Club, and the Company, is secured. Ensuring the long-term security of this Club is a process of maximising the potential of the present and managing the risks of the future. The Board is highly conscious of the financial environment in which we play football here in Scotland. The harsh reality is that the total income from broadcasting rights available to the Scottish game is a tiny fraction of what is available to our neighbours in England.

    Within this context and in the face of these hard facts, the Board has evolved the strategy that the Club, financially, has to adopt a self-sustaining model. In plain words, we have to live within our means. We cannot spend money that we don’t have. This is the only way to discharge our fundamental duty to protect the future of this great Club for our fans and for future generations of Celtic fans. Despite all of this, we share the fans’ disappointment over the failure to qualify for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League this year.

    Obviously, we work very hard to employ the funds we have to allow the manager and the team to produce the best football results they can. We do our utmost to acquire the best players we can within our financial constraints and the manager and the football operation use their best efforts to develop these players along with the talented players produced by our Youth Academy. We fully support our Chief Executive and his team as they manage this delicate and often difficult balance. There is no other way to manage a sustainable football club in Scotland.

    As a result of these constraints, we are committed to improving the football environment in which we play. We are represented at the highest levels of Scottish and European football by our Chief Executive, who is a board member of the European Club Association and the Scottish Football Association as well as being a member of the Professional Game Board of the Scottish FA, and by our Financial Director, who is a board member of the Scottish Professional Football League and a member of the European Club Association’s Finance Committee.

    This year also saw the creation of Celtic FC Foundation, the merger of Celtic Charity Fund and the Company’s Community Foundation Department to become a new, stronger charity with a wider role and greater reach. In keeping with the charitable principles and heritage of the Company, we are delighted to support Celtic FC Foundation as it delivers change and purpose to the Celtic Family and beyond.

    The Foundation’s priority is to provide assistance to those who face daily challenges within its key priority areas: health; equality; learning and poverty. In addition, support is offered in the form of delivery and/or partnership to external charities and other organisations who offer value in the community and whose principles fit within these key priority areas.

    As we look forward to the year to come, I am delighted to welcome Ronny Deila to Celtic. The Board is fully supportive of the philosophy and long-term approach of the coaching team. We look forward with anticipation to the development of a new team on the pitch that will, no doubt, feed from the passion and dedication of our supporters, and to the continued development of the Club to maintain stability and success for the long term.

    Wir sind stabil, das ist die gute Nachricht (und die ist in diesen Zeiten ja durchaus auch schon was wert). £11.17m Gewinn vor Steuern (vor einem Jahr waren es £9.74m) und unsere Rücklagen haben sich leicht erhöht auf £3.83m, das kann sich erstmal durchaus sehen lassen. Weniger schön ist der Rückgang der Einnahmen um über 14% gegenüber dem Vorjahr auf nunmehr £64.74m. Ein Teil dieser Gewinneinbußen (die £4.4m Football and stadium revenue) kommt natürlich durch die Senkung der Season Ticket-Preise zustande die aber dennoch ein richtiger Schritt war in meinen Augen, den beträchtlicheren Teil aber machen die £5.21m Verlust bei den Multimedia and Commercial Activities aus, die wohl in erster Linie entstanden sind weil wir 2013/2014 zwar in der Gruppenphase, nicht aber wie noch 2012/2013 im Achtelfinale der CL standen.
    Das zeigt wieder einmal wie abhängig wir in Sachen Gewinne doch weiterhin von der CL-Teilnahme sind, in der kommenden Saison werden wir uns wohl gehöhrig strecken müssen damit die Einnahmen £50-55m übersteigen, Gewinn wird sich so kaum erzielen lassen.

    FOLLOWING a recent fans’ forum at Celtic Park, the club agreed to a survey of Celtic season tickets holders to ensure that future changes to kick-off times met with their approval.

    And, following a survey last week of all Season Ticket holders for whom the club hold e-mail addresses, 52 per cent who responded were in favour of changing to an earlier kick-off time for Sunday home games.

    Therefore, Celtic’s forthcoming home league match against St Mirren on Sunday, December 14 will now kick-off at 1pm. The change to an earlier kick-off time is also supported by our match opponents, St Mirren, and the SPFL.

    We hope this move will be welcomed by supporters and will mean fans are able to attend the match and, of course, reach home at a more reasonable time on a Sunday late afternoon/evening.

    CELTIC have requested to the SPFL that their home fixture against St Johnstone, scheduled for January 10, 2015, be postponed.

    Premiership clubs are permitted to request one fixture postponement at the beginning of the season, and one in January.

    Ronny Deila’s side will have played 35 competitive games by the time they’ve faced Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on January 5, and the Celtic manager wants to take the opportunity for his side to have a short mid-season break and training camp before resuming their quest for silverware in the remaining months of the season.

    At the recent fans’ forum at Celtic Park, the issue of fixture cancellations was raised, with fans asking for notification at the earliest opportunity.

    And so, following these discussions, the club is announcing the postponement of the St Johnstone game now in order to give supporters proper notice.

    A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.



    Was daran sinnvoll sein soll, statt um 14 Uhr Ortszeit schon um 13 Uhr ins Stadion zu gehen, erschließt sich mir nicht. Und 52% Zustimmung zu früheren Anstoßzeiten? Is ja nicht gerade ne fette Mehrheit...

    Celtic plc have released the interim report for the six months to December 31, 2014.

    CHAIRMAN’S STATEMENT

    I am pleased to report on our financial results for the six months ended 31 December 2014. The introductory page to these interim results summarises the main highlights.

    Since the appointment of our new football management team led by Ronny Deila, we have embarked upon a period of transition, with the implementation of new ideas, methods and processes. We moved on from the disappointment of failing to qualify for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League to qualify for the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League and a tie against Inter Milan. As the football team develops on and off the field, we are pleased to be competing in four competitions.

    The Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games took place at Celtic Park with great success, leading to worldwide exposure for our brand, while the stadium also played host to the Scottish national team in two high profile international matches.

    A key factor influencing these results is the participation in the UEFA Europa League, as opposed to the UEFA Champions League. Revenue dropped for the period to £31.3m (2013: £44.8m). Operating expenses for the period decreased to £28.1m (2013: £34.3m), leading to a profit from trading, before asset transactions and exceptional operating expenses of £3.2m (2013: £10.5m). This trading performance, together with a lower gain on disposal of player registrations of £7.1m from £16.5m in 2013 are the main causes of the reduction in Profit before Taxation for the half year to £6.6m from £21.3m last year.

    Given the difficult economic climate and the challenging sector, it is pleasing that our business model allows us to report net cash of £5.3m as at 31 December 2014, compared to £5.7m in 2013, especially given the capital investment in projects including the Celtic Way.

    Each season, our overwhelming priorities are to win the SPFL Premiership and to qualify for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. The strategy of the Board is to aim to achieve this objective with prudent investment in the playing squad and by the continued creation of value through development of players, both from our youth academy and those identified by our football development operations.

    During the period under review, the registrations of Fraser Forster and Tony Watt were transferred, while the registrations of Craig Gordon and Stefan Scepovic were acquired permanently to build the first team squad, in addition to the loan signings of John Guidetti, Aleksandar Tonev, Mubarak Wakaso, Jason Denayer and Jo Inge Berget.

    During the January transfer window (after the period end), the Company successfully attracted three exciting young international players, Stuart Armstrong, Gary Mackay-Steven and Michael Duffy. In addition, Beram Kayal, Jo Inge Berget and Filip Twardzik left us during the window and in thanking them for their service we wish them well for the future.

    In addition to the transfer activity, the contracts of first team players Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and Darnell Fisher were all extended during the period, with the contracts of Kris Commons and Eoghan O’Connell being extended after the period end.

    As in previous years, the second half is expected to be more challenging in terms of financial performance with fewer home matches scheduled and no certainty on any further gains on the disposal of player registrations.

    Our strategy remains to live within our means. The football environment in Scotland continues to be challenging and we must operate within it in a fashion that does not unduly risk the long term future of this great Club.

    Our key focus for the remainder of the year will be to build on the progress we have made in the first half of the season and to deliver silverware from competing in the three domestic competitions and remain competitive in the UEFA Europa League. Furthermore, we will continue to develop our squad for the challenges of qualifying for European competition in the summer.

    After another busy spell for the Club, I extend my thanks and appreciation to Ronny Deila and his backroom staff, all of the players, executive management and staff, who, together, are committed to the success of Celtic. Above all, I thank our fans on whose support the Club relies.

    30%, also £14m weniger Einnahmen im Vergleich zum selben Zeitpunkt vor einem Jahr, da schlägt natürlich die verpasste Champions League zu Buche, £44.8m waren es damals, jetzt noch £31.3m. Die Betriebskosten gingen von £34.3m auf £28.1m runter und der Gewinn vor Steuern beträgt £6.6m (£21.3m letztes Jahr). Wir haben aber immer noch £5.3m auf der Bank liegen, nur £400k weniger als letztes Jahr, der Club bleibt also stabil.

    Und ich hoffe,dass wir nächstes Jahr wieder den Sprung in die Champions League schaffen,dann sieht das finanziell doch echt gut aus :celt6

    Stabil sind wir, und ich denke wir holen unter den finanziellen Bedingungen unter denen wir nunmal spielen müssen auch nahezu das Optimum heraus. Dennoch müssten wir in den nächsten 50 Jahren 50 mal in Folge Meister werden um das an TV-Einnahmen zu generieren, was demnächst der Tabellenletzte der EPL (mit dem neuen TV-Vertrag) pro Saison einnehmen wird.

    Die Wettkampfbedingungen werden immer ungleicher, und dass sollte man sich immer wieder vor Augen führen, wenn unserem Board mal wieder übertriebene Knauserigkeit vorgeworfen wird!

    Man muss aber auch mal ehrlich sagen,dass der TV-Vertrag der Premier League schon meiner Meinung nach nicht mehr gerechtfertigt ist.Was die da an Geld rausschmeißen ist echt nicht mehr normal.

    Gar keine Frage, da bin ich voll Deiner Meinung!!! Die Summen, mit denen die EPL in Zukunft agiert (HIER nochmal sehr eindrücklich aufgeführt) sind in meinen Augen nurnoch absurd, und bestärken mich nebenbei gesagt auch nur noch mehr in der Ansicht, dass der Verein Celtic sich von dieser Liga fernhalten sollte!
    Ich hatte es nur hier gepostet weil es trotz des soliden und wirtschaftlich gesehen sehr klugen Managments bei uns deutlich aufzeigt, dass wir im Konkurrenzkampf mit den Nachbarn im Grunde genommen auf völlig verlorenem Posten kämpfen! Traurig aber wahr, und das dürfte sich in den nächsten Jahren sogar eher noch verstärken.

    Ob es gerechtfertigt ist, wird die Zukunft zeigen. Wenn sie mehr reinkriegen als sie ausgeben, dann hat sich das ganze gelohnt und somit auch gerechtfertigt. Ansonsten sinken die Preise von alleine wieder.

    Celtic will announce their new global kit partners at a news conference on Thursday with New Balance reported to be named the club's kit manufacturers. The US company are poised to replace Nike for the Scottish champions after ten seasons.

    CELTIC Football Club is delighted today to announce New Balance as its new official kit supplier, having signed a long-term sponsorship with the sports brand in potentially the biggest kit deal the club has ever agreed. New Balance will supply the team kit, training wear and equipment from the 2015/16 season onwards.
