Bhoys busy on a night of international footballIt was a busy night for Celtic players around the globe as they competed for their respective countries.
Scott Brown’s goal gave Scotland an impressive 1-0 victory over Poland in Warsaw in a match that Charlie Mulgrew also played in.
A crowd of almost 70,000 packed into the Georgia Dome in Atlanta for the friendly international between Nigeria and Mexico. Celtic defender, Efe Ambrose, played the first-half of the match, but the large crowd were not to be rewarded with a goal as the match finished 0-0.
Nir Biton, who has been in impressive form for Celtic in recent weeks, played for just over an hour in Israel’s 3-1 home defeat to Slovakia, while fellow Celtic midfielder, Stefan Johansen, played the first-half in Norway’s 2-2 draw in the Czech Republic, the Norwegians grabbing an equaliser on 88 minutes.
Emilio Izaguirre helped Honduras to a 2-1 home victory over Venezuela in the Estadio Francisco Morazan as Honduras continued their build-up to the 2014 World Cup tournament in Brazil.
Finland recorded an impressive 2-1 away victory over Hungary at the ETO Stadium in Gyor. Despite conceding a first-half goal, the Finns battled back and scored twice in the last 15 minutes, with the winner coming from the penalty spot on 84 minutes. Teemu Pukki played for the majority of the game before he was substituted with two minutes remaining.
Georgios Samaras was in the starting XI for Greece as they played host to South Korea. But it wasn’t to be a good night for Samaras and his team-mates as South Korea, with former Celt, Ki Sung Yueng in their side, who won 2-0.
And Tom Rogic, currently on loan with Australian side, Melbourne Victory, played for an hour in an astonishing game between Australia and Ecuador at Millwall’s stadium, The Den, in London.
Australia produced an impressive first-half display that saw them race into a 3-0 lead, but after the break was a different story and Ecuador scored four times, including a 93rd minute winner in a seven-goal thriller.
Other Celts who were away on international duty were not called into action on the night: Fraser Forster (England); Anthony Stokes (Ireland); Adam Matthews (Wales).
