ErschĂŒtternd, die Nachricht gestern zu lesen.
Ich bin zwar noch recht jung und habe die Lisbon Lions und damit auch Bertie Auld in ihrer Zeit nicht wirklich miterleben können, aber die von ihnen hinterlassenen Geschichten, sowie ihre immense Bedeutung fĂŒr den Verein, leben seit Jahrzehnten fort und erschließen sich daher auch jĂŒngeren Celtic Fans.
Bertie schien auch auf jedem Bild, das es von ihm gab, zu lÀcheln und auch die Tatsache, dass er wohl vor jedem Spiel (insbesondere dem Finale 1967 gegen Inter) den Celtic Song mit seinen Teamkameraden angestimmt hat, wenn die Spieler vom Tunnel auf das Spielfeld rannten, fasst seinen Charakter und seine Einstellung wohl sehr gut zusammen.

A tribute to Bertie

Celtic Football Club today confirmed that there will a minute’s applause prior to kick-off in our League Cup semi-final against St Johnstone at Hampden this Saturday, November 20 in honour of Celtic legend, Bertie Auld, who sadly passed away earlier this week. As the Club has already announced, Celtic players will also proudly wear the famous No.10 on their shorts at the game in honour of Bertie.

At next weekend’s match at Celtic Park against Aberdeen, all season ticket holders will also have the chance to pay their respects to one of the Club’s true legends. Paradise, the place Bertie loved so much will see a further tribute to a man we in turn all loved so dearly. The Club will ensure that Celtic Park pays a fitting tribute, with season ticket holders given the chance to once again remember and honour Bertie and all he did for Celtic. Further details will be announced shortly.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS
Bertie Auld’s funeral will take place at 12noon next Friday, November 26, 2021 in St Mary of the Assumption, Abercromby Street, Calton, Glasgow. Following the service, the funeral cortege will pass by Celtic Park and down The Celtic Way at approximately 1.30pm. The club will broadcast Bertie’s funeral live on Celtic TV and the Club's YouTube channel for fans who wish to watch the service remotely. For those coming to Celtic Park to pay tribute to Bertie, we are also working on installing a big screen on the Celtic Way so that supporters at the stadium can also watch the service.

The Celtic Family say goodbye to Bertie

It was an emotional day as the Celtic Family bid farewell to Bertie Auld today (Friday). Over 1,000 people packed into St Mary’s Church in the Calton for the Requiem Mass, while many more watched online or at Celtic Park. And when the funeral cortege stopped at Paradise, many thousands of Celtic fans were there to pay tribute to a true Celtic legend and to say goodbye to a man they loved. It was fitting that, for a man who had given so much to Celtic over so many years, during and after his playing career, the funeral should take place in the parish where Celtic Football Club was born.
Parish priest, Canon Tom White, welcomed everyone to the church, passing on the condolences of everyone to Bertie’s wife, Liz, his children, Susan and Robert, his grandchildren and all Bertie’s family and friends. And then, before the beginning Mass, Canon White invited a number of speakers up to talk about Bertie as the family man, the friend and the footballer. His nephew, Ian Cairns, spoke movingly about his Uncle Bert, explaining that the Bertie Auld fans knew and loved was the same character that his family knew and loved too. Lord Willie Haughey explained that his friendship with Bertie and the rest of the Lisbon Lions was one that had lasted over 30 years. He also noted that both Bertie and Tommy Burns were the two finest ambassadors that Celtic have ever had and that the funerals for both of these great Celts took place at St Mary’s. And Lord Haughey also spoke of Bertie’s generosity of spirit and devoted friendship to his fellow Lions, especially when Jimmy Johnstone and Tommy Gemmell were fighting their own health battles. It was clear that, to be Bertie’s friend, was something to treasure.
Bertie’s friend and fellow Lisbon Lion, Jim Craig, spoke about his early memories of meeting Bertie when they were both players, and of how Bertie’s support – forthright and always forthcoming – was a constant boost throughout his playing career. And he recalled that legendary moment ahead of the 1967 European Cup final, when Bertie settled team-mates’ nerves by starting a rendition of The Celtic Song. Jim also spoke of the great bond that Bertie enjoyed with the Celtic supporters, something both of the other speakers referred to. That bond saw Bertie travel near and far to attends supporters’ functions, while his support for numerous charities, including Celtic FC Foundation, was something he happily did over many years.
The Requiem Mass itself was both a celebration of Bertie’s life and also an affirmation of faith that he is going to a better place. It was Celtic’s legendary manager, Willie Maley, who said following the tragic death of goalkeeper, John Thomson, ‘They never die who live in the hearts they leave behind’. Those words are so apt for Bertie Auld, whose character and contribution to his beloved Celtic Football Club will continue to live on.

Sowohl Aberdeen als auch Scott Brown persönlich haben offiziell verkĂŒndet, dass seine Zeit als Spieler/Co-Trainer dort mit dem Neustart unter Goodwin nun vorbei sind und er den Club mit sofortiger Wirkung verlassen hat.

Was man so hört könnte das nun auch das endgĂŒltige Ende seiner Spielerkarriere sein und er sich ab jetzt voll auf seine Zukunft als Trainer fokussieren. Vorerst trainiert er aber erstmal in seiner Heimatstadt Dunfermline beim örtlichen Zweitligisten mit.

Celtic great, John ‘Yogi’ Hughes passes away
Everyone at Celtic Football Club is extremely sad to hear of the passing of Lisbon Lion, John ‘Yogi’ Hughes, who has died at the age of 79, and the thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with John's family and friends at this extremely sad time. John spent 12 years at Celtic between 1959 and ’71, playing his part in a golden era for the club and establishing himself as an all-time great in the green and white Hoops. In 416 appearances, he scored an impressive 189 goals, making him one of only 29 players to have scored over a century of goals for Celtic.

Former Celtic hero Mikael Lustig announces his retirement at the end of the season
Former Celtic hero Mikael Lustig has announced he will be retiring from football at the end of the 2022 season with AIK Stockholm. The 35-year-old will bring his successful 18-year career to an end next month following the conclusion of the Allsvenskan league campaign. During his playing days, Lustig had three separate spells in his homeland, as well as spending time in Norway and Belgium. However, his most prolific and likely the most memorable time across his playing days was spent in Glasgow as a Celtic player. After joining the Hoops from Rosenborg in 2012, the right-back spent around eight years at the club, working under Neil Lennon, Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers. Lustig was part of some of the most successful teams in the club’s illustrious history, lifting eight Scottish Premiership titles, four Scottish Cups and four Scottish League Cups. The Swedish international played a crucial role as part of the Treble Treble-winning side and was the starting right-back during Brendan Rodgers Invincible season. No Celtic supporter would fail to remember Lustig’s brilliant antics, and he was seen as one of the biggest characters within the Hoops changing room. Of course, who could forget his famous police hat celebration in the 5-0 win over Rangers at Celtic Park. Across his 276 appearances for the Bhoys, the full-back made a decent contribution in front of goal, scoring 21 and providing 40 assists.
