Celtic target loan deal for Christian Atsu

Reports late last night filtered through that Celtic are interested in a loan deal for 22 year old Ghanian winger Christian Atsu. Atsu, currently under Chelsea’s ownership, played well during the World Cup, although Ghana were unable to get out of their group. Their only point in fact was against newly crowned World Champions Germany.

Atsu made a name for himself while he was at Porto before Chelsea came in with a £5 million bid to lure him to the riches of the English premier league. Chelsea immediately sent Atsu out on loan to Vitesse in a year long deal. He played a part in Vitesse’s early challenge to be Dutch champions before Ajax finally stepped up their game running out comfortable winners.

Celtic overtaken in the race to sign midfielder as Belgians prepare bid

Celtic face the prospect of losing out on signing target Jeff Louis as Belgian club Standard Liege prepare to make a bid of around £2m for the midfielder.
Louis has been linked with a £1.7m move to the Scottish champions but it seems likely that they will be outbid by Standard.

The Belgians have embarked on an ambitious recruitment drive this summer which has already involved the £1.3m fee paid to Celtic for Tony Watt. They are now expected to add Louis, a Haitian midfielder who scored 12 times for Nice last season.
Losing him is likely to trouble Ronny Deila much more than the departure of Watt, whom the Celtic manager criticised before selling the 20-year-old to Standard. However, Watt's new coach has insisted that he is quite satisfied with the Scot.

"I don't care about his past, only his future," said Guy Luzon, the Standard coach. "I love his talent and the way he plays."

    • Tony Watt has hit back at former boss Ronny Deila after the Celtic manager claimed Watt’s exit out of Celtic Park was prompted by a poor work ethic. The Scotland under-21 international has stated that Deila personally praised his training before telling the striker that the main reason behind his Celtic Park exit was the embarrassment of riches at the striker position. (The Herald)

    • Deila’s attempts to sell a second striker have incurred a setback with Belgian club Lokeren baulking at Celtic’s £1.5 million valuation for Amido Balde. The Portuguese striker signed from Vitoria Guimaraes last summer but failed to impress in his debut Premiership season, scoring only two league goals. (The Herald)

Celtic boss Ronny Deila keen on Ireland Under 21 star Brian Lenihan

THE Cork City full back is also being tracked by Hull City, QPR and Aston Villa after starring for the Irish League side.

CELTIC are in the hunt for Cork City’s promising young full-back Brian Lenihan – but face a fight from English sides to sign him.

Hoops full back Adam Matthews has been linked with a return to Wales, with Swansea City keen to land the ex-Cardiff City defender.

And Celts have wasted little time in looking for a replacement with highly-rated 20-year-old Lenihan on their radar.

The Irish Under-21 ace has had a host of scouts watching him this season with Hull City, QPR and Aston Villa all keen.

Cork boss John Caulfield said: “There’s been huge interest and if an offer comes in that’s right for Cork and Brian, then that’s great. He has the ability to go to the highest level.”

    Mackay-Steven, May, Armstrong, Souttar, etc.
