Delight as Anthony Ralston signs new Celtic contract
Celtic are delighted to announce that Anthony Ralston has signed a new contract which will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2025. The 22-year-old defender, who first joined the club’s Youth Academy at the age of eight, has enjoyed an impressive start to this season under Ange Postecoglou, making 21 appearances and scoring four goals. He made his first-team debut back in May 2016, coming on as a substitute in a game against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, having spent most of that 2015/16 season on loan at Queen’s Park. He later had a short loan spell at Dundee United towards the end of the 2017/18 season, and then spent the next campaign at St Johnstone. In the summer, he signed an extension with Celtic, but the new contract is a reflection of his contribution to the team this season.

It follows the suspension that rules out Nathan Patterson after the Rangers player received a second booking after scoring in Friday's win over Moldova. It is the first time Ralston has been called into the senior squad. The 22-year-old has had an outstanding season with Celtic after the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager. Ralston, a product of the Celtic's youth system who had loan spells with Queen's Park, Dundee United and St Johnstone, had struggled for game time with his parent club until the Australian took charge this summer and has gone on to score four goals in 23 appearances. He has played for Scotland at under-21 level but made his last appearance at that level in 2018.

The 22-year-old full-back had attracted interest from Premiership and Championship clubs. Ralston is currently the only recognised right-back on Celtic’s books as new boss Ange Postecoglou hunts for players. He will now get a chance to impress Postecoglou in the early weeks of pre-season.

Ganz ehrlich, hätte irgendjemand vor einem Jahr vorausgesagt, dass Ralston in der kommenden Saison 47 Einsätze mit 5 Toren und 9 Vorlagen für uns bestreiten, dazu in der Nationalmannschaft debütieren und auch dort treffen würde, dem hätte wohl jeder hier empfohlen mal für ein paar Stunden aus der Sonne zu gehen!

Celtic are delighted to announce that Anthony Ralston has signed a new four-year deal which will see him remain at the club until 2027. The 24-year-old joined the Celtic Youth Academy at the age of eight and he worked his way through the ranks, making his first-team debut in May 2016, coming on as a substitute in a league game against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Prior to that he spent a few months on loan at Queen’s Park. He has also had subsequent loan spells at Dundee United and then a season at St Johnstone in 2019/20. Having returned to Paradise, it was in the 2021/22 season that he established himself in the first-team squad at Celtic, and he has gone on to make a total of 90 appearances for the Hoops, scoring seven goals.
