Scott Bain: I couldn't turn down chance to join Scotland's top team

IF a week is a long time in politics, then a day can seem like a lifetime for a footballer. Scott Bain woke up this morning as an on-loan Hibernian player, and ended the evening as a Celt, having joined the Scottish Champions on loan from his parent club, Dundee, until the end of this season. Indeed, events moved so quickly for the 26-year-old goalkeeper that he had to leave Hibs’ pre-match meal at Easter Road ahead of their game against Motherwell to make the trip along the M8 to Glasgow, hence the reason he was still in his Hibs’ training gear! That was quickly swapped for a Celtic jersey, of course, and the keeper couldn’t contain his delight at having become the latest addition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad. Speaking exclusively to the official Celtic website, Scott Bain said: “It sort of sums up football and how crazy it can be, and how the timing affects everything that goes on, but I’m just delighted to be here.
“It’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up and it’s the chance of a lifetime to come to a club the size of Celtic and work with a manager as good as Brendan Rodgers and a goalkeeping coach like Stevie Woods.
“This is biggest club in Scotland and one of the biggest clubs in the world, so I just can’t believe that I’m here. I phoned my dad earlier in the day just to say that I was leaving Easter Road and on the road to Glasgow, and he was buzzing and delighted for me. I can’t believe I was on the bench for Hibs against Celtic last weekend and then, just a few days later, I’m signing for Celtic.
“I’m thoroughly delighted. It’s not something that when I went on loan to Hibs was ever going to happen, so the past few days have been great, and to get it over the line and be here is absolutely amazing.”
The new Celtic goalkeeper had joined Hibernian on loan from Dundee at the start of January, although he hadn’t played for the Easter Road club before the Hoops stepped in following Craig Gordon’s injury against Hibernian, which will see the club’s No.1 out for up to 12 weeks. And Scott Bain is looking forward to working with his new team-mates.
“I know Stevie Woods from previous games,” he explained. “I was at Dundee for three-and-a-half-years so I’ve played a lot of games against Celtic so I’ve spoken to him before and after games and he’s a great guy, so I’m looking forward to working with him and the whole squad. I’ve got full belief in my own ability and I believe I can be at Celtic and perform at this club, and not look out of place here. But, first of all, I need to get in and start working with the boys and get those first few weeks under my belt, and get comfortable and really shine.”

Das war in der Tat ein starkes Debüt am letzten Wochenende, Bain hat keine Nerven gezeigt und hatte mit ein paar starken Paraden durchaus Anteil an unserem Sieg. Ich würde ihm auf jeden Fall gönnen, wenn er seinen Platz jetzt erstmal behalten könnte, denn De Vries hat mich auch diesmal wieder nicht wirklich überzeugt...und anscheinend bin ich auch nicht der Einzige, der sich seinen Verbleib auch über den Sommer hinaus vorstellen kann:

Unabhängig von Bain würde mich interessieren was Celtic langfristig auf der Goalie Position plant,vielleicht sogar mit Bain

Ich hoffe, er darf mindestens bis Gordon wieder fit ist im Kasten bleiben. Was De Vries bisher im Celtic Jersey gezeigt hat fand ich wenig ĂĽberzeugend. Dann doch lieber den deutlich jĂĽngeren Bain mit Perspektive ausprobieren und im Sommer eine informierte Entscheidung treffen, wie es generell weitergehen soll auf der Position.
Fakt ist, dass die nominell ersten beiden Torhüter 35 und 37 sind. Für Torhüter noch nicht unbedingt zu alt, aber der Zeitpunkt, wo sie nicht mehr helfen können wird kommen - bei De Vries ist er vielleicht sogar schon gekommen. Und auch Gordon hat vor allem was die Strafraumbeherrschung angeht unübersehbare Schwächen.

Ich würde es jedenfalls begrüßen, wenn man dem Jungen jetzt das Vertrauen schenkt und eventuell so schon direkt verhindern kann, dass die Torhüter-Position in ein oder zwei Jahren zu einem ähnlichen Problem wird wie es die RV-Position mittlerweile ist.

Hat sich auch heute von seiner besten Seite gezeigt. Ich weiß, warum ich schon seit mindestens 5 Jahren heiß auf den bin und ihn im Tor von Celtic stehen sehen möchte.

Ganz ehrlich jetzt von mir: Mit Bain haben wir einen absoluten Toptransfer getätigt.
Ein zuverlässiger Goalie, der den kommenden Aufgaben und Anforderungen wirklich gewachsen zu sein scheint!

Naja, er hat jetzt zwei Spiele gemacht, zu hoch sollte man das auch nicht hängen. Ich halte Bain für einen guten Torwart und bin auch dafür, ihn über den Sommer hianus fest zu verpflichten, aber ob er wirkich unsere langfristige No 1 werden kann muss man erstmal abwarten, dafür ist es noch ein bisschen zu früh.

Sehr zu begrüßen. Ich bin gespannt, wie sich die Situation nächste Saison darstellen wird. Gordon wird ja höchstwahrscheinlich die Nummer 1 bleiben, deVries muss wegen mir keine Rolle mehr spielen.
Ich hoffe ein bisschen, dass Bain sozusagen die Nummer 1,75 wird und zum Beispiel immer in den Pokalwettbewerben ran darf oder anderweitig regelmäßig Spielpraxis bekommt.

Ein weiterer schottischer NationalmannschaftsdebĂĽtant: Nachdem er 2015 schonmal in den Kader berufen worden war, durfte Bain am Sonntag gegen Mexico zum ersten Mal 45 Minuten fĂĽr Schottland auf dem Rasen stehen.

Und trotz einer maximal durchwachsenen Hinrunde, in deren Verlauf er in Dundee nach einem Streit mit Neil McCann aus dem Kader verbannt wurde, und obwohl er in der RĂĽckrunde fĂĽr uns nur 7 Pflichtspiele gemacht hat, schaffte er es auf die Scotsman Liste der 12 besten TorhĂĽter in Schottland:

The Celtic goalkeeper could make the case for having the most surreal season. Two starring matches for two different teams, a loan move to a third club, a fall-out with one manager and largely indifferent form. Since reaching a high point in his career two seasons back Bain has stagnated and even regressed.
At Dens Park there was the sense he was simply unhappy with how the club were progressing as two of the star players, Kane Hemmings and Greg Stewart, moved south. Bain didn’t lose his goalkeeping qualities, it appeared to be a mental factor which affected consistency and concentration. So just as he conjured up a world class denial he would soon let a regulation save go past him.
If it wasn’t for an injury to first Craig Gordon and then Dorus de Vries to start a strange series of events, he would have struggled to make the list. But the loan move to Hibs and then to Celtic has refocused a talented goalkeeper. He was pitched into the Old Firm clash at Ibrox in a sink or swim situation. He swam strongly, making a few timely interventions. From being the goalkeeper who was in goals as Dundee lost eight of their first 12 matches before being banished by Neil McCann, he is now resurgent and confident, not looking out of place in the Celtic team.
Best moment: A great performance against Hibs for Dundee would be the obvious answer, but the most impressive incident came in the Old Firm match. Having conceded very early on he was given a tricky back pass but took the ball calmly and played out from the back.
What the stats say: In Bain’s last 48 leagues games for Dundee, Bain conceded 85 goals.

Since the restart of the league following the winter break, Bain has been installed as the Parkhead side’s starting goalkeeper ahead of Craig Gordon. Celtic have played six games, scoring 16 goals and not conceding one, with the ex-Dundee goalkeeper excelling and impressing between the sticks.

Bis auf die paar Paraden binnen paar Sekunden im Cup und die Anfangsphase away gegen St Johnstone muss man ehrlich sagen hätte wohl jeder andere Torwart auch zu Null gespielt.
Da ja wie gestern eigentlich nichts aufs Tor kam.
Aber ich muss zugeben wenn Gordon den Ball hinten am FuĂź hatte war ich immer froh wenn er einen Mitspieler fand.
Bain strahlt da einfach eine Sicherheit aus und beim herausspielen ist eer einfach der bessere FuĂźballer als Gordon.

Ich denke, die Stärke mit dem Ball am Fuß ist *das* entscheidende Kriterium im Moment. Gordon hätte gestern in der ein oder anderen Situation Schwierigkeiten bekommen, weil die Hibs so früh draufgegangen sind. Entsprechend bin ich mit der Entscheidung, Bain spielen zu lassen, absolut einverstanden.

HOT on the heels of James Forrest signing a new four-year deal with Celtic, keeper, Scott Bain has done likewise by signing a new deal with the club. The stopper will now be with the Hoops until at least the summer of 2023 after penning the new contract this morning (Thursday).
Bain joined the Celts on loan in January last year after initially being on loan at Hibernian from Dundee, and he joined up at Paradise as back-up to Dorus de Vries while Craig Gordon was injured. It wasn’t long, however, before the keeper made his debut, in a 3-2 win over Rangers at Ibrox in March, 2018 and he signed a permanent deal at the end of last term. The stopper has since played 45 games between the sticks for Celtic, and the club are delighted to have three experienced keepers such as Scott Bain, Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon all vying for the first-team spot.
