There are few things which spark a more furious reaction in Scottish football than the suggestion of Old Firm 'B' teams entering the SPFL.

Lowland League in talks over accepting Old Firm colts teams next season
Old Firm colt teams could be playing in the SPFL pyramid next term after the Lowland League confirmed it is in "productive" talks with Celtic and Rangers over a one-season invite. A recent plan for Old Firm colts to play in a 16-team League 2 next season failed to attract enough support.

Both halves of the Old Firm were allowed to state their case during Monday's meeting before a private indicative vote showed 11 clubs in favour, five against and one abstention. Full details of the deal are still to be made public but both clubs will pay £25,000 as entry payment into the league. And the decision will still need to be ratified at the league's annual general meeting on 27 May.

Lowland League: Clubs back plan to admit Old Firm 'B' teams for one season
Celtic and Rangers are set to field 'B' teams in the Lowland League next season after a "majority" of member clubs voted in favour. The decision, having been provisionally approved by clubs earlier this month, was confirmed at the Lowland League's annual general meeting on Thursday. Celtic and Rangers will each pay £25,000 as entry payment for their one-year participation. Neither Old Firm colts team will be eligible for promotion.

Celtic B Team set for Lowland League Debut this Weekend
The Celtic B team will make their debut in the Lowland League this Saturday, July 17 when they take on Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic in the first league game of the 2021/22 season. Tommy McIntyre’s Hoops side will play their inaugural game in the division after the league voted in favour of allowing a Celtic B team into an expanded league for the upcoming season.

Bosun Lawal signs three-year deal at Paradise for Celtic B side
The Club are delighted to announce Bosun Lawal has signed for Celtic as part of our Academy, initially working with Tommy McIntyre's Celtic B side. The 18-year-old joins from English Premier League side Watford. The Ireland Under-21s internationalist is a defender who can play in midfield, having made his debut at this level for his country following a summer training camp in Marbella. Lawal was recently named as the Watford Academy’s Player of the Year, and joins Celtic’s B side ahead of their new campaign in the Lowland League this weekend.

Narrow defeat for Celtic B Team in season opener
Bosun Lawal’s debut goal wasn’t enough to salvage anything from the Celtic B Team’s opening game of the season as Tommy McIntyre’s side fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat. Lee Currie fired Bonyrigg ahead midway through the first half and George Hunter doubled the home side’s lead shortly after half-time. Lawel reduced the deficit on the hour mark but the Hoops couldn’t find an equaliser before full-time.

Du meinst Urhoghide? Der stand auch nicht im Kader, sitzt aber heute bei der ersten Mannschaft gegen Jablonec auf der Bank. Beide, Shaw und Urhoghide, sind nicht fürs B Team vorgesehen, nicht zuletzt weil sie schon zu alt sind. Den vereinbarten Regeln mit der Lowland League zufolge müssen die Spieler alle unter 20 sein, maximal ein Feldspieler und ein Keeper dürfen U21 sein. Hin und her wechseln zwischen beiden Mannschaften ist grundsätzlich möglich, ab dem fünften Einsatz für die erste kann ein Spieler allerdings für den Rest der Hin- bzw Rückrunde nicht mehr bei dem B Team eingesetzt werden.

Die beiden U21 Spieler bei uns waren bisland Keeper Ryan Mullen und Brody Paterson, alle anderen Spieler sind Jahrgang 2002 oder jünger (Rocco Vata, der Sohn von unserem Ex-Spieler Rudi, der gestern das 1-0 erzielt hat, ist zB gerade erst 15 Jahre alt). Und vor allem für diese Spieler ergibt der regelmäßige Einsatz in der Lowland League auch Sinn, sie können hier gegen erwachsene Männer antreten statt bis 20 nur gegen Gleichaltrige. Shaw und Urhoghide, die beide schon in der englischen Championship gespielt haben, dürften in der Lowland League nicht mehr allzu viel neues lernen.

Naja, mehr Probleme als aktuell in der Inneverteidigung hatten wir noch nie und werden wir wohl auch nicht mehr haben.

Und er schafft es ja nicht einmal jetzt auf die Bank.

Nein, fürs B Team kann er so oft spielen wie er will, das hat keinen Einfluss auf seine Verfügbarkeit für die erste Mannschaft. Das gilt nur umgekehrt, kommt er beispielsweise in der HInrunde fünf Mal für die erste Mannschaft zum Einsatz, dann kann er bis zum Ende der Hinrunde nicht mehr im B Team eingesetzt werden, analog funktioniert es dann auch in der Rückrunde.

Es scheint, als hätte sich das B Team inzwischen gut an die neue Liga gewöhnt, am Wochenende gab es jedenfalls bereits den dritten Sieg in Folge.

The Celtic B Team overcame Annan Athletic 2-0 in a dominant SPFL Trust Trophy win this evening (Wednesday) at the Penny Cars Stadium in Airdrie. Tommy McIntyre made seven changes to the side which overcame Bo’ness United in league action at the weekend, with a number of players who’ve been in and around the first-team this season so far entering the manager’s starting XI.
