Loan Bhoys will learn from the experience
Eleven players from the Development Squad headed out on loan to clubs in Scotland, England and Ireland to garner invaluable competitive experience during the course of last season.

Mal gespannt wen davon wir nächste Saison noch im Team haben werden.

    George at the double

Paul George sent Ronny Deila a two goal reminder from Turriff as Celtic’s development side continued their pre-season programme in the Highlands.

The majority of the team that had beaten East Kilbride 5-1 the previous Saturday found themselves in St Pauli leaving George as the elder statesman of the side that traveled to the north east.

A loan spell at Hamilton in the second half of last season failed to work out but on Saturday the Irish u-19 internationalist led by example as Celtic beat Turriff United 2-0.

“All players have something to prove, Paul’s attitude was excellent, he was the oldest in a young squad and did everything that we asked of him,” coach Stevie Frail explained.

“He came in from the left for the first goal, then shot with his right foot past the keeper. The second was a break from a corner, Aiden Nesbitt squared for him to finish.”

The development squad will always be a filter between the Celtic academy and the first team with continuity an unlikely luxury.

Frail’s squad set off in the newly named Development League next week with the side to face St Mirren at Cappielow, 24 hours before the first team face Legia Warsaw at Murrayfield, anyone’s guess.

“We will play a younger team against Manchester City on Tuesday,” Frail added. “With the first team involved in the Champions League we’ll wait to see who is available after the weekend.

“That’s the way it is at this level and we’re always wanting to give boys their chance to push into the first team squad.

“There’s a few of them making an impact, like Callum McGregor and Liam Henderson. That is the example for everyone that is in and around the development squad.”

Fasan's delight at penning new deal

FOUR years of perseverance and patience came to fruition for Leo Fasan this month when the 20-year-old signed his first professional contract at Celtic.

The Italian shot-stopper put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club, rewarding his excellent progress in Paradise since his arrival on trial in 2010.

He had to bide his time for all the necessary paperwork to be rubber-stamped, giving him a different status to the rest of his contemporaries. But it was worth the wait, and now the delighted young Celt is looking forward to the next chapter of his career at the Scottish champions.

“It feels great,” he told the official website in an exclusive interview. “I have been working hard for the past four years and finally I’ve managed to get this professional contract so I am very happy.

“Last season, I was always thinking about when it was going to get sorted. But now it has been done, I am more relaxed and can train and play better. It was just paperwork that needed finalised. Now everything is resolved so I am happy and can relax.

“It was a bit strange as everyone else in the club was different. But it was something to push me to get the contract and it was maybe something I needed to push myself even harder.

“I came on trial initially and Celtic offered me the chance to stay. My objective every year since then was to stay in the team and get better every year. Now I am in the first-team squad, I hope I can show the manager what I can do and play some games with the first team.”

The established No.1 for the Under-20s last season, Fasan excelled as the young Celts made it five-in-a-row in the league, making several stunning saves at crucial points in the campaign.

This impressive form earned him a place in the summer tour of Austria, where he featured for Ronny Deila’s side against FK Krasnodar, Rapid Vienna and LASK Linz, appearing assured and composed at this level.

And Fraser Forster’s subsequent departure to Southampton has pushed him further up the pecking order in Paradise. His next target is competitive action.

“I was very happy at the chance to play in pre-season games,” he said. “I had a good time with the boys and hopefully I can get some game-time competitively and get on the bench.

“I am getting closer. Every day I try my best to push myself further. It is harder as there is only one place in the team and you just have to work harder every day and show the manager your best.

“When a new manager comes in, everything is new and you need to show him what you are capable of. It’s good that he put me in for the game in Austria, so I hope he can put in for more games in the league.”

Frail encouraged by showing against Sunderland
STEVIE Frail took plenty of positives from how Celtic’s Development Side performed this afternoon as they went down 5-3 to Sunderland in an entertaining encounter at the Academy of Light.
An own goal and Liam Henderson’s strike had put the young Hoops in charge against their opponents, who included several senior players in their line up. But the hosts restored parity by the break and then completed the turnaround after the interval. A fine individual effort from Aidan Nesbitt pulled the visitors level but the Black Cats found the net twice to claim the spoils.

Nach zwei Remis zum Saisonstart gabs gestern endlich den ersten Sieg fĂĽr die U-20 in der Development League:

Battling Bhoys claim first victory of the season
GOALS in either half from Kieran Tierney and Paul McMullan saw Celtic’s Development Side seal their first three points of the season after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Dundee at Cappielow. Tierney struck as half-time approached, turning in McMullan’s chip through a ruck of players, before McMullan gave the Bhoys breathing space in the 64th minute, converting from the spot after he had been felled in the box by Iain Davidson. Craig Wighton pulled a goal back for the visitors to set up at tense finish, but Stevie Frail’s young guns showed admirable resolve to hold firm and get their league campaign up and running after starting it with successive draws.

    Langsam läufts doch:

Brilliant Bhoys hit County for six
LIAM Henderson’s hat-trick helped inspire Celtic’s Development Side to a thumping 6-2 victory over their Ross County counterparts in the Highlands. The talented teenager struck twice in the first half to put the Bhoys into the lead after the home side had taken an early lead through Kyle MacLeod. Although MacLeod cancelled that out before the break, Joe Thomson handed Stevie Frail’s side the advantage again with a stunning effort from 20 yards. Henderson then completed his treble with an emphatic finish from the edge of the area, before Paul McMullan slotted home number five with 17 minutes remaining. And the forward put the seal on a superb second-half showing, scoring a fantastic first-time half-volley from the angle of the box as the clock ticked down.

    Die Siegesserie geht weiter:

Celts victorious in tough Glasgow derby
CELTIC’S Development Squad resisted a second-half fight-back from Partick Thistle to secure a vital 3-2 win in tonight’s Glasgow Derby at Cappielow. The Bhoys took the lead early through Paul McMullan after he rounded goalkeeper Scott Basalaj in the Thistle goal and were soon 2-0 up through Fiacre Kelleher’s header. Thistle pulled one back before half-time through Declan McDaid but the Hoops sealed the points through Liam Henderson’s close-range flick, despite Jordan Layden’s second half strike.

Gute Leistungen einiger unserer U-20 Kids bei ihren jeweiligen Jugendnationalmannschaften:

    Celtic bhoy is Ireland’s hero
Fiacre Kelleher scored the only goal of the game yesterday as Ireland’s u-19 side beat Sweden 1-0 in a friendly in Sollentuna. Eight days earlier the kid from Cork had been on the scoresheet with Paul McMullan and Liam Henderson for Celtic’s Development side in the 3-2 win over Partick Thistle. McMullan and Henderson scored in Scotland 2-2 draw with Finland on Tuesday with Kelleher’s header just before half-time giving Ireland victory over the highly rated Swedes.
