Six-week injury setback for Celtic's Scott Brown

Celtic and Scotland midfielder Scott Brown is likely to be sidelined through injury for at least six weeks.

The 25-year-old had been left behind by the Scotland squad as they headed to Prague to face the Czech Republic.

National doctors had feared aggravating an ankle injury but hoped he could play against Spain on Tuesday.

But Celtic have announced that a scan discovered that Brown had "suffered a stress reaction in the third metatarsal on his right foot".

Brown had been playing through the pain barrier for Celtic and had been receiving intensive treatment after joining the Scotland squad ahead of Friday's Group I qualifier.

He was eventually left behind in the hope that he could recover in time to face world champions Spain, but further examination has lead to the conclusion that the midfielder must spend time on the sidelines.

"Scott Brown's withdrawal from the Scotland squad earlier this week clearly highlighted a problem, which Celtic's medical staff have now investigated," said a club statement.

"Investigations are ongoing, but it is likely that Scott will, unfortunately, be out for a period of six weeks.

"However, this could potentially be longer, though the club will only know after Scott sees a specialist next Tuesday."

It is Celtic's second injury blow this week, with midfielder Beram Kayal also being sent to a specialist and facing a number of weeks on the sidelines with a hernia problem.

So eine Scheiße, erst die Sache mit Kayal, da hatte man sich ja schon so ein bisschen drauf eingestellt, und jetzt das! Nun fehlen uns in der Zentrale gleich zwei richtig wichtige Kämpfertypen, bleiben noch Ledley, Ki, evtl Juarez und sogar Crosas könnte nun wider wichtig werden. Aber das trifft uns hart, keine Frage...

Neil Lennon has revealed that injured Celtic skipper Scott Brown could be out until after the New Year.

Brown was initially ruled out for six weeks on Friday after having fractured a bone in a foot.

However, Hoops manager Lennon fears the midfielder may need surgery after he sees a specialist this week, meaning he could be out until January.

He said: “It’s a big blow because Scott is a pivotal player for us and his performances have been very good.

“We’re just concerned about the length of time he could be out.

“We’re not too sure about the whole extent of the injury yet, we’ll know more this week.

“If he does need surgery, it will be ripping the guts out of 12 weeks.”

Gutted Brown admitted his heartbreak at being forced to sit out a crucial period for club and country.

Brown confessed: “I’m devastated. No player wants to sit out, especially me.

“I’m not one for sitting in the stands. I want to be involved. I’m not a great spectator.

“There are just so many important games coming up for Celtic and Scotland and I’m gutted I won’t be able to play in them.”

Lennon revealed the news after yesterday’s 4-1 friendly win over Bohemians, which he felt was another worthwhile exercise.

He said: “The players in general have been very good in trying to take on board what we are telling them.

“It’s very early days, but we are pleased with the response we’re getting.

“I’m happy with the quality and intensity of the performances at the moment, and the players have got to take a lot of credit.

“I know there is a lot more to come from them, and that will only come when they are given time play together and bond.”

ich denke auch das Ledley jetz noch wichtiger wird... ich dachte eigentlich er wird wegen emilios verletzung erstmal LAV spielen, aber durch brown s verletzung is es doch besser ihn im Mittelfeld spielen zu lassen... Murphy is fĂĽr mich keiner der die andren mit reiĂźt, im normalfall spielt der nich mal von anfang...

Emilio wird gegen Dundee wieder spielen. Somit kann Ledley wieder ins Mittelfeld aufrĂĽcken.

Druch das Mittelfeld durchzukommen ist brutal schwer für den Gegner. Kayal und Brown sind so ziemlich die größten Kämpfer unserer Mannschaft. Dazu Ledley der auch kein Kind von Traurigkeit ist! Also da möchte ich nicht McCulloch heißen....

Macht super Spiele im Moment ohne Zweifel. Dennoch würde ich mir ein Trikot von Brown niemals holen. Ausser Lubo kann mich beim nächten Trip doch davon überzeugen, daß das eine gute Wahl wäre.
