CELTIC have placed Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez on their list of summer signing targets.
MailSport can reveal Hoops boss Neil Lennon is an admirer of the 22-year-old and has been closely monitoring his progress.
The former England Under-21 star has netted 21 goals in this campaign and is rated as one of the best strikers in the Championship.
But he is under contract until next summer and the Turf Moor side would look for around ÂŁ3million.
Lennon wants to add a striker with height, power and presence as he bids to retain the SPL and reach the Champions League group stage.
Rodriguez, who was on loan at Stirling as a kid, fits the bill while Yann Kermorgant of Charlton is also on the radar.
Celts will weigh up their options but hope to snap up their targets by early July.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed that the club has been recruiting for next season and made a bid last week for a mystery player.

The Parkhead club were crowned as league champions on Sunday and Lennon took time out from his celebrations to explain that he would not be sitting back after domestic triumph.

The manager said that he intended to add new faces and that a formal offer had already been made for one unspecified player.

“I don’t think we’ll be complacent in that aspect,” Lennon said.

“We bid for a player this week, in excess of £3 million, so already the wheels are in motion to bring in players early.

“I’m not telling you who it is and I’m not making it up.”

As he prepares to make a challenge in the Champions league next season, Lennon also underlined his determination to hold on to striker Gary Hooper. The Englishman finished as SPL top goalscorer this season and scored every goal as Celtic defeated Hearts 5-0 in their final game.

Southampton have previously made offers to take the player but Celtic are not expecting the forward to leave, Lennon insisted.

“He’s a special player and I’m delighted he’s fulfilling all the talent we think he has,” he added. “I’d like to think he’ll be here next season.

“I think he is happy here but obviously there will be people out there who would pay for his talent, pay for his goals.

“He’s a goalscorer and they are priceless in the game. We want to keep him and we’ll do our very best to do that.”

Neil Lennon is confident of securing new deals for Gary Hooper and Fraser Forster.

The two Englishmen played major roles in Celtic’s SPL success and have attracted attention from elsewhere.

Forster is the most pressing concern for Lennon with the goalkeeper set to return to Newcastle at the end of his second season on loan to Celtic.

Getting the keeper to sign a permanent deal is Lennon’s main transfer priority with a bumper new deal being lined up to put Hooper on a par with the top earners at the club.

The former Scunthorpe striker has scored 51 times in two seasons for Celtic with no one more appreciative of his ability than Lennon.

“It was fitting for Gary to end the season with five goals against Hearts,” the Celtic boss said. “He’s been magnificent and is a really intelligent footballer.

“Sometimes he’s carried the club and that’s a huge responsibility for someone so young- being the main man in the forward area.

“He’s a quiet boy off the field, quite shy but on the field he’s immense. I hear that he wants to stay and that’s very pleasing because no doubt people in England and elsewhere will have an eye on him.

“I hope to speak to his representatives soon and get something nailed down.”

Turning to Forster Lennon revealed: “I had a chat with him and he’s very very happy here. It’s a question of trying to get him and his representative in and trying to thrash something out.

“He’s our main priority, he’s had a fabulous couple of years here, he’s grown and grown to such a point that not many people talk about Artur Boruc who was probably the best goalkeeper here for 30 years.”
