Bosun Lawal signs new contract extension with Celtic

Celtic are delighted to announce that Bosun Lawal has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2026. After putting pen to paper, the defender will now go on a season-long loan to English League One side, Fleetwood Town, managed by former Celtic captain Scott Brown.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 internationalist arrived at the Hoops in 2021 after spending a number of years in the Academy of English side, Watford. Since his arrival in Glasgow, the 20-year-old has continued his development as part of the Celtic FC B squad, playing in competitions such as the Scottish Lowland League and the Premier League International Cup. He also helped Celtic lift the Glasgow Cup at Ibrox last campaign. After impressing as part of the B squad, he was promoted to the first-team set-up and made his senior debut for the club earlier this year in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup against Greenock Morton.
More recently, he was part of the first-team squad for the pre-season tour of Portugal and Japan. The promising defender will now head south of the border to spend the season on loan with Fleetwood, joining fellow Celtic team-mate Adam Montgomery at Highbury Stadium.

Brown ist ja schon seit einer Weile nicht mehr Trainer von Fleetwood aber Lawal nach wie vor Stammspieler dort. Und hat gestern beim 2-1 Sieg in Reading sein erstes Profitor erzielen können...und dann auch noch ein richtig schönes (ab 0:05).

Charlie Adam is convinced Bosun Lawal is a star in the making for Celtic. The youngster is on loan at Fleetwood Town for the campaign after originally joining last summer under former boss and now Ayr United gaffer Scott Brown. The legendary Hoops skipper raided his old club to bring in the 20-year-old to the Cod Army and he's established himself as a key player ever since under former Hibs boss Lee Johnson and now new manager Adam. The former Rangers and Liverpool star has waxed lyrical over his loanee and believes the skill and talent he has in his locker can hardly be found in England's second tier never mind League One where he his plying his trade at this moment in time. He's featured in nearly 30 games in all competitions this season as he continues to pick up vital first-team experience before returning to Parkhead in the summer.

Beim 1-2 gegen Barnsley am Wochenende hat Lawal sein zweites Tor erzielt, wieder mit einem Distanzschuss (ab 0:38). Charlie Adam war danach wieder voll des Lobes ĂĽber ihn:

Adam hat Lawal aus der Innenverteidigung ins zentrale defensive Mittelfeld vorgezogen und offensichtlich trägt diese Umschulung bereits Früchte. Ich kann mir nicht helfen aber ich bekomme schon leichte Victor Wanyama Vibes bei dem Jungen.

Lawal am Wochenende mit der nächsten MotM-Vorstellung für Fleetwood, beim 4-2 Sieg gegen Shaun Maloneys Wigan konnte er zwei weitere Tore erzielen (0:05 und 1:17).

Generell muss man sagen sieht sein Highlight Tape von dieser Saison schon echt vielversprechend aus.

Bosun Lawal will play anywhere he's required in order to make an impact at Celtic. Lawal is spending the season on-loan with English League One outfit, Fleetwood Town, and has impressed during his 25 appearances so far. The Republic of Ireland U21 internationalist has played under SPFL alumni Scott Brown, Lee Johnson and now ex-Scotland star Charlie Adam at Fleetwood. He began his career as a defender but has also been deployed in centre midfield at times by Adam, a position he has enjoyed. And Lawal believes he is ready to be Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers’ next big breakthrough star this summer - slotting in wherever he’s required.
