Sevco have launched a secret investigation into Charles Green and Imran Ahmed.

Rather than question the dynamic duo themselves the Ibrox board have set up a separate commission to look into recent allegations that Craig Whyte has been involved with Green.

The former billionaire has released a series of highly damaging recordings contradicting Green’s claim that Whyte played no role in the transfer of assets from the liquidated club to Sevco 5088 and then Sevco Scotland.

Today’s statement read: “The Board has announced today it is to commission an independent examination and report in view of recent allegations in the media concerning the Chief Executive, Charles Green, the Commercial Director, Imran Ahmad, and their management of the Club.

“The decision to commission the examination was taken unanimously by those in attendance at today’s meeting including non-executive and executive directors.

“The independent report will be commissioned and completed as speedily as possible and presented directly to the non-executive directors of the company.

“The Chief Executive will not be involved in the conduct of the examination. The Board wishes to make clear that is not prejudging any of the issues involved and that the object of this exercise is to clarify the situation to the satisfaction of shareholders, supporters, staff and Board members.

“Instructions recently given to lawyers in England and Scotland with a view to taking legal action to challenge these recent allegations will form part of the independent examination. “

The board statement was issued at half time during the 2-0 win over Clyde.

If Sevco find that Whyte was involved with Green it could leave the SFA with no other option than to cancel the associate membership given to Sevco in July.

Rangers' new sponsor Blackthorn Cider has complained to the club following racist remarks made by chairman Charles Green.

The brand has confirmed to The Drum that it has spoken to the club in response to comments made by Green in an interview last week, which also drew complaints from its current sponsor, and C&C stablemate, Tennent's Lager.

Paulo Mortarotti, managing director at Shepton Mallet Cider Mill, said: "Blackthorn Cider does not wish to have any association with racist remarks such as this. It’s an issue we take very seriously and this has been relayed to the club."

Blackthorn Cider announced in March that it would take over from Tennent's as the shirt sponsors of the Scottish Third Division champions for next season
